Coronet Peak Scoops Races from Hotham
Posted on 12 August 2010 at 11:37 AM
Two major ski races will be staged at Coronet Peak next week following a decision to move them from Australian ski area Mt Hotham.
The Continental Cup races – Giant Slalom and Slalom – are to be run on Monday August 16 and Tuesday August 17 respectively.
Coronet Peak Head of Department for Race and Events, Richard Murphy is delighted to have the opportunity to run more high level races after the success of the Canadian FIS race last week.
“The races are FIS (International Ski Federation) sanctioned and are the highest level of Alpine Ski Racing in the Southern Hemisphere. We’re stoked to host them here and offer a real opportunity for world class race action to the teams training here. Many ski racers will take this chance to try and improve their world rankings and FIS points.”
“This event will showcase Olympians and national team athletes from New Zealand and around the world. We have two perfectly good race tracks in excellent condition and were very happy to schedule these races at short notice. It’s fantastic news for our national team as well as a great opportunity for those from other countries.”
Expected to take part in the races are skiers from the Canadian, American and Slovenian national technical teams as well as the New Zealand national team.
