Mt Hutt Under Half Metre Snow
Posted on 25 June 2010 at 11:32 AM
A massive 58cm dump of snow over the past two days and more in the forecast has Mt Hutt set up for fantastic skiing and riding and an awesome July school holidays.
The latest fall has resulted in a 1.25m base at the top of the high country ski area and 1.05m at the base, well over the magic 1m level that makes for great coverage.
Assistant Ski Area Manager James Mackenzie says the new snow has already started to consolidate adding to an already impressive base for this stage in the season.
“We received a good 45cms on Tuesday and into Wednesday, then another 10-15cms of dry, light snow on top of that yesterday and today. The skiing and riding will be just fantastic when the weather finally clears.”
The ski area plans to open the Triple Chair as soon as possible.
“As soon as there’s visibility, we will have the groomers working below the car park to prepare the trails. There’s still some snow in the forecast over the next few days but any clear moments between the clouds will offer superb conditions for skiers and riders.”
Those driving to the ski area can tune into 94.1FM for up to the minute information about weather conditions, what’s operating and what’s going on at Mt Hutt. New this year is the NZSki Radio Frequency (RF system) which allows for easy access to the lifts and mountain products through the innovative and personalized mypass, enclosure of the existing Magic Carpet and an expanded beginner area, upgrades to Sky High café and Huber’s Hut and improvements in the terrain parks allowing for better access and new features.
