Mt Hutt Fine Tunes for Opening Saturday
Posted on 10 June 2010 at 09:07 PM
Mt Hutt Ski Area is primed and ready for the opening of its 2010 winter season this Saturday (12 June).
Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager, Dave Wilson, said the superb snow conditions promised a fantastic opening day for skiers and boarders.
“We now have an average snow base of just under a metre which is outstanding cover for this early in the season,” he said.
“We’re amped and ready to go and are looking forward to an Opening Day where people can check out new developments on the mountain.”
To celebrate the season opening, the first on the chair will be awarded the sought-after ‘first-on-the-quad’ and ‘first-on-the-summit’ chair t-shirts while other early birds will be welcomed with a glass of bubbles.
Lifts operating on Opening Day will be the Summit Six, Quad Chair and the Magic Carpet offering access to all levels of terrain. Skiers and boarders will also get to trial their brand new mypass, the state of the art radio frequency ticketing system.
Beginners visiting Mt Hutt tomorrow can, for the first time, use the new expanded and upgraded beginners’ area with its enclosed Magic Carpet and extended slope – all designed to make learning easier and more fun.
Other summer improvements include a revamp of the café, extensions to Huber’s Hut restaurant, earthworks in the main terrain park, a new road into the mini park and new high country signage to improve the navigation of the mountain.
Mr Wilson says this year’s upgrades were planned largely in response to feedback from skiers and riders and are designed to improve the overall experience for Mt Hutt’s visitors.
“Every year we consider how we can make things better for people. The new radio frequency system means people won’t have to fish around for passes to be checked and on slope improvements mean more fun for everyone.”
Base facilities opening on Saturday include Sky High Café, Huber’s Hut, the Childrens’ Centre and Skiwikids programmes, Rental and Repair, Snow Shop and Snow Sports School.
