The Remarkables Gears Up for 2010
Posted on 19 April 2010 at 09:16 AM
The snow season is fast approaching and improvements at The Remarkables will ensure fantastic winter experiences for visitors to the alpine ski area this year.
An upgrade within the base building with new dining facilities, new furniture and an improved kitchen which will serve as a great meeting point for families and friends, and a more comfortable place to relax between runs.
Always fabulous for kids, The Remarkables is this year offering a series of fun activity trails with jumps and tunnels for children of all abilities. Plus there’s a new bouncy castle for the crèche guests adding to a fun filled day on and off snow.
The Remarkables is renowned for its progressive series of terrain parks; starting with beginner features and moving through to an international competition level park and, of course, the Burton concept park, The Stash. All parks have new features for the 2010 season. This year the Half Pipe has been reshaped and once snow is on site will be maintained throughout the season.
For those who want to explore The Remarkables legendary peaks and valleys, guided tours are now on offer at 11am each day.
In order to make lift access quicker and easier, New Zealand’s first radio frequency (RF) ID system has been installed to electronically check lift passes through clothing when skiers and boarders pass through the specially designed gates. And while NZSki offers free transport from Queenstown to The Remarks for most pass types, drivers will enjoy a resurfaced access road and more signage to help those not used to driving on mountain roads.
Ski Area Manager, Ross Lawrence, said the improvements reinforced the NZSki’s commitment to continually upgrade facilities.
“Each year we want to show that we have a real passion to deliver a long term programme of development and a progressive winter experience that’s fun and exciting for all snow sport enthusiasts,” he said.
“The Remarkables is an awesome alpine snow area. It has gentle slopes perfect for learning, it’s bathed in sunshine all day long, has huge terrain parks for skiers and boarders of all ages and stages, and offers the best in-bounds off piste terrain around.”
The Remarkables is scheduled to open on June 19 for the 2010 winter season.
