 Skiing on Coronet Peak, New Zealand

The premier ski areas in the South Island of New Zealand are renowned for their amazingly long ski seasons.  

This year the season kicked off with  Coronet Peak (near Queenstown) opening on 7 June.    During the subsequent weeks Mt Hutt,  The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Treble Cone, Porters and the ski areas in the Mackenzie region open their runs for skiers and riders alike. 

Most ski areas remain open until late September, with some running right through until the middle of October!

Christchurch and canterbury

Christchurch city is the gateway to the Canterbury region and is well on the way to a vibrant recovery, after devastating earthquakes of 2010-2011.   Christchurch is at the top of the list of ‘Destinations on the Rise’, according to Travellers’ Choice of Destinations by Trip Advisor.

Surrounding Christchurch, are the Canterbury Plains featuring the alpine village of Methven.  Only one hour from Christchurch, Methven is the gateway to Mt Hutt ski area.  Methven and Mt Hutt offer unbeatable value for family ski holidays with their Kids 4 Free deal for kids aged 10 and under, when accompanied by a paying adult.

Porters ski area, nestled in the spectacular Craigieburn Range, is easily accessible from either a base in Methven or Christchurch.
