Snow Storm brings amazing snow

The whole of the South Island experienced a great Antarctic-fed snow storm 18 - 19 June.  When the snow cleared and the sun shone through here is what the resort looked liked.   There is some great early season powdery snow to enjoy....so don't delay.

Most ski areas will remain open until late September, with some running right through until the middle of October!

Christchurch and canterbury

 © Miles HOlden

Christchurch city is the gateway to the Canterbury region and is well on the way to a vibrant recovery, after devastating earthquakes of 2010-2011.   Christchurch is at the top of the list of ‘Destinations on the Rise’, according to Travellers’ Choice of Destinations by Trip Advisor.

Surrounding Christchurch, are the Canterbury Plains featuring the alpine village of Methven.  Only one hour from Christchurch, Methven is the gateway to Mt Hutt ski area.  Methven and Mt Hutt offer unbeatable value for family ski holidays with their Kids 4 Free deal for kids aged 10 and under, when accompanied by a paying adult.

Porters ski area, nestled in the spectacular Craigieburn Range, is easily accessible from either a base in Methven or Christchurch.

Continue south, hugging the inspiring Southern Alps and soon the vast open wilderness of the Mackenzie region reveals itself, home to three boutique ski areas: Mt Dobson, Roundhill and Ohau.
